Those of us who are tone oriented artists, believe value arrangement of darks and lights in a pleasing design, is the backbone of good painting. I concur with that. But for those artists color can be offensive, thereby, color is muted. To have a good composition takes skill and ability, nevertheless, in my opinion, if you are, also, color oriented person, as I am, by adding color, you face a bigger problem, due to the likelihood, that indecision, may quickly result in a muddy picture.
