Red Barn and Scrub Bushes No. 1 11"x15" Acrylic

This is another sketch I did today of our barn in acrylic. Colors of fall are already appearing here and there. These paintings are done on Arches watercolor paper. When I decide to paint in a new medium that I have not used for awhile I usually paint 20 to 30 in succession, if possible, so that I can grasp the best way to deal with the new medium. Every medium has its own unique problems that the artist needs to adjust to. Whether it is a good idea to paint in a variety of media is a matter of opinion. I tend to do that,  and I do enjoy the challenge. Often advisors say that the artist needs to stick with one subject and one medium that becomes his or her own brand. Personally I do not worry about that which gives me the freedom to do as I please. That way I avoid monotony in my artistic life.
