I rarely put effort in pre-designing a painting before I begin the actual process, even though everyone says it’s imperative to do that. My hurried process began because of time constraint. In other words I had to paint whenever I found an hour or two to paint. But during the years of my struggle trying to learn the craft I realized that I instinctively veered towards what seemed to work for me as I went along in the process with each painting. And that meant that each painting was an experiment or taking a risk that something is going to work. Of course that doesn’t make each experiment a success. Here, the presence of the vertical tree in the foreground against the four equal horizontal strips, I think, made it work okay.
