Painting these portraits or figures from life in a three-hour period which includes two 15 minute breaks is a chancy proposition. Never the less I consider it a wonderful learning experience. The artist learns to make fast decisions in quick placement of the figure on the canvas or board and make colors harmonious, regardless how outrageous the set up happens to be.

Often as what happened today at the end of the first hour I got the feeling that things are not going well. This may be due to the constant moving of the model especially in the initial drawing stage or I may have started on the wrong footing. In this situation I tell myself to stop, relax for few minutes and not rush in making more wrong decisions. Then the idea is to scan the painting as a whole, analyze the situation objectively, and chances are I am able to pinpoint the problem. And often this gets me moving in the right direction.

Becca is a beautiful yet outrageous young woman in the way she acts and looks. She is a pleasure to sketch.
